Magic with macros!
Our thanks to Mark White of ProposalGeeks for a great presentation on April 19, showing us the wondrous things a proposal manager can do with macros and how to install existing macros and write new ones of your own. Please see the News page for a summary of his presentation and the Library page for a link to free macros that Mark has made available for download.
APMP-Socal has an accreditation coach
Ron Scheidecker, former chapter chair, has volunteered to be an accreditation coach. In this role, Ron will help our members obtain information on accreditation, and he will mentor members as they seek first-time accreditation or higher levels of accreditation. His role also includes "helping Socal celebrate the success of those who earn accreditation," which is code for taking you out for a beer when you gain accreditation.
Bid & Proposal Con is May 22-25 in Dallas, Texas. Save money by registering by April 30
Our annual conference, Bid & Proposal Con, is coming up next month. Please see the APMP web site for abstracts of the presentation, a summary of events, and registration. For the first time, APMP is offering a one-day rate, and there will be a new commercial track for proposal professionals who work mainly in the non-government sector. Networking, luncheons, prizes, and an awards dinner are also part of this year's event. If you are going to Dallas, please let Mitch Boretz or Steve Koger know so we can have a Socal lunch while we are there.
What if everything you know about PowerPoint is wrong?
Penn State Professor Michael Alley told us about the error of our ways and how to do better at our February meeting. See the News page before you add one more bullet point.
An APMP flavor to the March meeting of the National Contract Management Association Orange County chapter
Mitch Boretz of APMP will be the guest speaker at the Orange County NCMA's dinner meeting on March 15. Mitch is chair of the APMP Electronic Proposal Task Force. Since buyer and seller are both involved in figuring out the eventual shape of the electronic proposal, this will be an opportunity for us to hear what buyers and contract managers would like to see and would like to avoid. APMP members are welcome to attend. See the Calendar page for details.
Our next meeting: A Dallas preview
Our next webcast meeting will be in April 2012. APMP's international conference will be in late May in Dallas, and we expect to have a preview of one or more presentations that will be delivered there. More information will be available soon.
Five dozen proposal professionals gathered in Anaheim on October 21 to share ideas, insights, and best practices for The Proposal Process: Start to Finish. For a summary of the event and photos, please see our News page. Copies of the presentation are available on our Library page. APMP-Socal members can discuss the conference and post messages on the Socal Community web page via www.apmp.org (click on Communities, then Chapters, then Socal).
A new award for procurement best practices
APMP has established a new award, to be given for the first time at our 2012 conference in Dallas, to honor government and private-sector agencies that exhibit excellent procurement practices. APMP members can nominate customers that employ exemplary practices to provide clarity, fair competition, and efficiency in the bidding and evaluation process. To learn how to make a nomination, please see our News page.

See us on LinkedIn and Facebook
We now have APMP SoCal groups on Facebook and LinkedIn – if you are registered on either of these networks, please join the APMP SoCal group to show your support. This is one of several outreach efforts, however the most effective outreach method we have is YOU – your personal referral, or better yet please bring a colleague to our next meeting. Our thanks go out to Robert Bunnett for getting us up and running on the networking sites.
